Os líderes dos 27 Estados-membros da União Europeia (UE) aprovaram esta quinta-feira (23), em Conselho Europeu, o estatuto de país candidato à UE para a Ucrânia, Moldávia e Geórgia.
“O Conselho Europeu concedeu o estatuto de país candidato à Ucrânia e Moldávia. Momento histórico e sinal de esperança para o povo ucraniano”, reagiu o primeiro-ministro do Luxemburgo, Xavier Bettel, nas redes sociais.
“Este é um momento histórico no plano geopolítico e um passo decisivo para a União Europeia”, declarou, por seu lado, o Presidente do Conselho Europeu, Charles Michel.
Através das redes sociais, a Presidente da Comissão Europeia, Ursula von der Leyen, falou num “dia bom para a Europa”, saudando a aprovação dos líderes europeus.
“Ucrânia, Moldávia e Geórgia todos têm trabalho a fazer antes de passar para a próxima etapa do processo. Eu sei que eles vão movimentar-se rapidamente. Eles sabem como isso é crucial para suas democracias, suas economias e seus cidadãos”, rematou Ursula von der Leyen.
